Our Mission & Values

Through this site, we aim to provide evidence-based, valuable content that encourages a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle, incorporating physical activity, mindfulness, and play.

The Mission

We are told that slowing down is an inevitable part of aging. At Ones Best Self, we look at the data, and we disagree.

This platform exists for one specific purpose: To help the high-performing professional extend their Healthspan—the period of life spent in good health—through evidence-based strategies in Mind, Body, and Play.

We cut through the noise of wellness trends to deliver what actually works for the 40+ physiology. No fads. No “hacks.” Just science, simplified and applied to a busy life.

Who We Are For

You have spent decades building your career, your family, and your expertise. But often, the machine that powers it all—your mind and body—gets left on autopilot.

You don’t have time for 2-hour morning routines or conflicting diet advice. You need:

  • Clarity: What does the peer-reviewed research actually say about longevity?

  • Efficiency: What is the minimum effective dose of exercise to prevent sarcopenia (muscle loss)?

  • Cognitive Edge: How do we maintain focus and neuroplasticity in high-pressure environments?

Our Methodology: The Triad of Healthspan

We view wellness through three interconnected pillars. Neglecting one destabilizes the others.

1. Mind (The Executive Center) Mental wellness is not just about “reducing stress”—it is about cognitive longevity. We explore the neuroscience of focus, emotional intelligence, and resilience. We provide tools to manage high-functioning anxiety and keep your brain sharp as you age.

2. Body (The Machine) As we enter our middle years, our physiology changes. What worked at 20 will not work at 50. We focus on:

  • Metabolic Health: controlling inflammation and energy levels.

  • Functional Strength: protecting joints and bone density.

  • Sleep Hygiene: the foundation of all recovery.

3. Play (The Differentiator) This is where most high-achievers fail. Play is not “wasting time”—it is a biological necessity for neuroplasticity and stress regulation. Whether it is learning a new instrument, team sports, or creative flow states, we treat Play as Active Recovery. It is the counter-balance to professional burnout.

Evidence-Based Commitment

The wellness industry is plagued by pseudoscience. Ones Best Self is different.

  • We reference peer-reviewed studies (PubMed, The Lancet, etc.).

  • We distinguish between “clinical evidence” and “anecdotal theory.”

  • We invite experts—psychologists, nutritionists, and movement specialists—to validate our content.

Meet The Editorial Team

At One’s Best Self, we believe wellness requires two things: rigorous science and relatable storytelling. Our editorial team bridges the gap between clinical research and real-world application.

Rhiannon Thomas

Founder & Editor-in-Chief BSc Psychology | Level 2 Fitness Instructor at One's Best Self

Rhiannon is the strategic lead behind Ones Best Self. With a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and qualifications as a Fitness Instructor, she approaches wellness with a skeptical, scientific eye. Frustrated by the "woo-woo" often found in the wellness industry, Rhiannon built this platform to curate health advice that actually stands up to scrutiny. A voracious consumer of scientific literature (from New Scientist to longevity research journals), she focuses on the "why" and "how" of aging. Focus Areas: The psychology of behavior change, the science of longevity, and practical strength training for healthspan. The Mission: "I want to translate complex research into a clear protocol that helps professionals stay cognitively sharp and physically capable for decades to come."

Marie Ellis

Guest Editor & Mental Health Advocate BA English | Mental Health Experience Expert at One's Best Self

Marie is a seasoned writer and mental health advocate who brings the "Mind" pillar to life. With a degree in English and an extensive background in blogging (including her work with Broke Girl in the City), Marie specializes in the human side of wellness. She writes from the perspective of an "Experience Expert"—using her own journey and lived experience to destigmatize mental health discussions. While Rhiannon provides the science, Marie provides the voice, ensuring our content remains empathetic, accessible, and grounded in real emotion. Focus Areas: Emotional resilience, navigating mental health challenges, and the power of narrative in healing.
